You are always pitching!

Pitching might have immediately ringed your bells regarding the pitcher in a baseball game. Or if you have been watching content concerning start-up investments or investor pitch decks, then probably it reminded you of new business owners pitching their business/start-up idea in front of the potential investors.

Well, if it’s the latter you thought, then you are right. That is the pitching we are talking about.

What really happens at investors pitch decks? The start-up or local businesses try to project their vision, products, strategies to win over the financial investments from the potential investors. Notice the word potential here?

‘Potential’ means these investors have all these resources to take the start-up pitching in front of them to the next level. But it’s still a potential; something that could be granted, provided the ones on the podium prove that they could be entrusted with this grant.

Now, this is all understood in the context of an investor pitch deck. What does pitching have to do with our daily lives? Well, let’s find out, cogently.

Let’s start with your circle of friends. Maybe you never thought about it, but, when you ask for help; you have a preference.

When in financial need, you almost ask the same friend who helped you financially in the past. Or when it comes to relationship advice, you ask the friend who appears to be quite ‘the go-to person’ in that domain. In times of other emergencies, the one who was there for past emergencies. Now many times, these preferences overlap over the same few people. This only means they have displayed ‘the potential’ before in multiple domains.

But the underlying theme stays more or less the same. When someone demonstrates a set of capabilities and actions, you open your vaults to them.

Now on the other hand it also means that you don’t really take advice or even ask for help from someone who’s your friend but worries a lot about their own entangled lives. You don’t want to hang out on your bad days with someone who often whines or complains about their lives, even though you don’t hesitate to claim them as your good friend.

Someone who’s never emotionally available because at any moment they are busy setting some other temporary personal issues; you stop bothering them gradually.

And all these decisions you make without realizing that you are taking them!

Your friends were all the while pitching their selves to you all along and that influenced your selections. Now what that also means is that you were also pitching yourself on them and the effect of that pitching is seen in how they interact with you.

This doesn’t just apply to your friendships but also to your relationships with family, loved ones or let’s say it shapes forming your future potential relationships. Your reputation at your workplace and your connection with your colleagues, are all get influenced by your pitch.

Now that you know, that you are always pitching, how does it change anything for you?

If you truly understand the implications of it, you know that with your every activity, you are building the product ‘You.’ It is defining you and you are showcasing this to your peers, colleagues and friends alike.

The relieving thing to know here is that you get to decide and perform activities that will pitch you. And of course, it takes time to build up a profile good enough for the potential investors to release their potential for you, in all aspects of your life!

Take time today to decide how do you want to pitch yourself in the coming years. It’s hard work that needs repetition and patience for your product (i.e., You) to build up. So that your pitch has a value that you desire.

Remember, you don’t get to choose when to come up with the product because you are continually pitching, even at this moment!
